Hope for the Rocks

Scripture: Psalm 114:7,8

“Earth, you will tremble, when the Lord God of Jacob comes near, because he turns solid rock into flowing streams and pools of water.”

Observation:

The Lord God (of Jacob) has a reputation for turning solid rock into streams and pools of water. What an amazing proclamation about God!! He can miraculously and literally make water flow from a solid rock as He did in the Old Testament for the Israelites. (Exodus 17) That is a type or a shadow of what He promises to do in the New Testament so fast forward to the gospel of John where Jesus tells the Samaritan woman that HE is the Living Water and those who come to/believe in Him will have streams of water flowing from within their inner-self. (John 7:38)

Application:

To think of the places in my heart and life that are rock hard … the stubborn attitudes that keep me rigid … the hurts that are callous and hard as a rock … the willful and unintentional sins that anchor my heart to the wrong thing or to the wrong perspective … the thoughts and behaviors and relationships that seem utterly impossible for me to change … the “rocks” piled up in my heart/mind and life … to think of the Lord God “coming near” to those places and thus, life-giving water begins to flow out of the hardness. Sigh … what redemption … what releif and joy … what a difference He makes!!! How does He “come near?” James reminds me that if I will draw near to God, He will draw near to me. What hope for me today as it’s totally been a “rock” hard kind fo day!!!

Prayer:

Father, as I come near to you tonight, would you come near to me once again Lord God? Would you “strike the rocks” of my heart and life and supernaturally let the springs of living water burst forth from within me so that new life begins to change me from the inside out. Father you and I both now that today a rock settled deep within my heart … strike it God and soften it with the Living Water; wash the hurt and offense and discouragement away. Change me, Lord, I want to cooperate with the Holy Spirit as He works to change me. Amen.
