29 Oct 2009Scripture: Mark 4:26-28 “He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain—”
Observation: I love that these verses show how the word works its way in us; invisibly. “All by itself the soil produces grain”… amazing! Our role is to plant the seed, but God is the one who grows it, even in our sleep! I love that scripture can make its way deep in us, if we are open and allow it to…it grows, it blooms, it brings about hope, fruit, and life… even when we can’t see it working in us, it is.
Application: This scripture in Mark also reminds me of one of my favorite verses, Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
How exactly the seed grows is a mystery to me (us). Though it grows by a process I cannot see nor fully account for, I want to have faith in the growing process. I want to work in partnership with God, yet fully know that the real work is left up to Him, only HE can grow this in us – and we don’t even know how! I want to trust in this process that I can’t understand or account for. I want to step in faith and choose to trust… and believe that HE is at work, even when I cannot see.
Prayer: Father, help me to trust you. To believe you for the unseen. To know that you are at work in me in Spiritual ways that I can’t see nor understand! Help me to know that your word is always at work, but I need to be open to hearing it and allowing it to work in me. Plant this truth deep in me and keep my heart soft to receiving and hearing! Your word brings about life, change, hope, and faith… it never comes back empty! Help my unseeing, unbelieving eyes to hold onto that truth… and let it grow.
